DUBAI – Dubai’s Ramadan humanitarian campaign has received further momentum after more donors committed Dh11 million to the Edge of Life initiative, reinforcing the UAE’s growing mobilisation against childhood hunger.

The additional contributions come as the campaign continues to attract strong support from the private sector and business community. Organisers say the initiative aims to rescue five million children worldwide from hunger and acute malnutrition through sustainable programmes.

Emirati businessman Gheyath Mohammad Gheyath, owner of GINCO Group, announced a Dh8 million donation to the campaign. Separately, Car Fare Group pledged Dh3 million, bringing the combined additional total to Dh11 million.

Edge of Life

The Edge of Life campaign was launched during Ramadan by His Highness Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. The initiative seeks to raise at least Dh1 billion to fund sustainable efforts aimed at combating childhood hunger worldwide.

The campaign is an initiative of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives and promotes broad community participation to build a long-term culture of giving. It is being implemented in partnership with UNICEF, Save the Children, Children's Investment Fund Foundation and Action Against Hunger.

Gheyath said the campaign reflects the UAE community’s commitment to supporting vulnerable populations globally, particularly children facing life-threatening hunger. He noted that contributing to the initiative aligns with national values of extending support to those in need.

Earlier donations

The additional pledges build on major earlier contributions totalling Dh140 million announced by prominent philanthropists. Previously, Hussain Sajwani, through the DAMAC Foundation, committed Dh100 million, while Mohammed Juma Al Naboodah pledged Dh40 million, signalling strong early backing for the Ramadan drive.

Campaign organisers highlighted that child malnutrition remains a critical global challenge. A mid-upper arm circumference measurement below 11.5 cm in children aged six months to five years is among the World Health Organisation criteria used to diagnose acute malnutrition, underscoring the urgency of early intervention.

How to contribute

The Edge of Life campaign continues to accept donations through multiple channels, including its official website, the toll-free number 800 4999, bank transfers via Emirates Islamic Bank, SMS contributions by texting “LIFE” to du and e& numbers, as well as the DubaiNow app, YallaGive.com and the Jood platform.
